Screen legend Jane Russell, the busty actress who played opposite Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, died Monday at the age of 89. Among other things, Russell was known for her bountiful breasts -- still a big selling point in Hollywood (or anywhere, for that matter).
In Russell's honor (and for our own gratification), we take a look at the Best Breasts Among Movie Stars, starting with Jennifer Hudson, whose gravity-defying mammaries glowed as brightly as the trophies at the Academy Awards on Sunday.
Jennifer Hudson: It's been rumored that Hudson, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Dreamgirls in 2006, has had breast augmentation surgery.
But she also told Oprah Winfrey recently that she lost 80 pounds on the Weight Watchers diet, so we're not sure just what's holding the girls up. In any case, they sure do look good in that dress.
Jennifer Connelly:
Anyone who watched Connelly grow up on screen in movies like Labrynth was pleasantly surprised to see her years later, riding a horse in the comedy Career Opportunities, with a full-grown chest that bounced the way only natural breasts can.
We would argue that Connelly's boobs actually made a movie co-starring Keanu Reeves watchable (the 2008 remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still) and made us not care how utterly fucked up everything was in Requiem for a Dream.
Seriously, who could forget the scene in American Pie where Elizabeth's character finds the porn collection of Jim Levenstein (played by Jason Biggs), and then sits on his bed perusing it while topless?
Even if you forget the scene, the boobs are unforgettable. Yes, they're big, and the shape is immaculate. But for women, one thing that makes Elizabeth's breasts so great is they're not perfect. If you look closely, her right breast is slightly larger than her right, which is pretty universal to all women with real knockers.
Scarlett Johansson: Johansson's killer cleavage has made numerous "best breasts" lists. Why? Because she has a perfect pair, airbrushing be damned.
When she's wearing a shirt, they look like two large teardrops snuggled together in a blanket. When she's wearing latex or leather (a la Iron Man and The Avengers), they look like Acme bombs ready to explode out of her outfit.
And when she's wearing nothing, well, they look like something out of Venus de Milo, but even more perfect
Jennifer Tilly:
Yet another Jennifer makes the list. Tilly spends most of her time these days playing poker, but when she played mob moll Violet in the 1996 thriller Bound, she definitely had the winning hand, er, breasts.
When she tells handy lesbian Corky (played by Gina Gershon), "I have a tattoo. Would you like to see it?" viewers knew they were in for some hot stuff, because the tattoo is (of course!) on Tilly's boob. Her shapely melons were enough to make a doll go psycho in Seed of Chucky ... and we can only imagine they've given her a couple of advantages at the card table.
