From hookah hangouts to fashion exhibitions, here's what to do and see in metro Phoenix this week.
Noche Latina @ Club Cloud N9ne Hanging out at a typical hookah bar can be pretty tiresome. The combination of blaring pop music and the veil of smoke all but guarantees a migraine. That is, unless you're lucky enough to find a place that serves hummus or has a couple of belly dancers on hand as welcome distractions.

Club Cloud N9ne breaks out of that stereotypical mold with Noche Latina, a weekly dance party with DJs and live bands bumping tunes from genres such as reggaeton, cumbia, and merengue inspiring more movement than a typical evening on a couch that reeks of banana tobacco. -- Melissa Fossum
"An Exhibition of Recent Work by Henry Schoebel, Anthony Pessler, and John Obuck" @ Eric Fischl Gallery They say those who can, do, and those who can't, teach -- but what about those who do both? Henry Schoebel, Anthony Pessler, and John Obuck aren't just friends, wise guys, and veterans of the Phoenix art scene, they're also professors at ASU. And as students head toward midterms, this teacher-artist trio heads back to the gallery to showcase an exhibition of brand new works to the public.
Happening out of the classroom as well as off the campus, "An Exhibition of Recent Work by Henry Schoebel, Anthony Pessler, and John Obuck" is on view now through Thursday, September 19, at the Eric Fischl Gallery at Phoenix College, 1202 West Thomas Road. "The Cape" @ Phoenix Art Museum Step aside, Superman. The cape's making a comeback faster than a speeding bullet. Don't fear, Phoenix fashionables; these coverups aren't the floor-sweeping, candy-red costumery the Man of Steel's made famous. Instead, the fall 2013 trend showcased in collections from Valentino and Mulberry focuses on luxe fabrics, sleek shapes, and cultivating a cosmopolitan, ladylike look.
With an eye toward the past and a grasp on today's fashion market, Phoenix Art Museum presents "The Cape" in its Ellman Fashion Design Gallery. There you'll find a range of inspiration for this season's wardrobe, from a silk satin fuchsia Mexican bullfighter's cape and a dainty floral Dutch piece to a thick, navy number by Lanvin with a high collar and matching fedora.

"Learn to Knit!" @ Frances Is it knit one, purl two? Or knit two, purl one? We really can't remember, and if you're anything like us (or if that "scarf" you started last winter looks more like a coat for an iPhone), local craft haven Frances has just the class for you.
The two-time knitting refresher course, "Learn to Knit!" holds its second session Thursday as part of the boutique's ongoing monthly workshop series. Designed for knitting novices, beginners will learn the mechanics of knitting from the basics of knit and purl stitches to as binding off -- but most importantly they'll learn exactly what all that means.
Supplies are provided, including needles, yarn, and an incredible amount of patience. The class holds 10 people, and reservations are required.

ASU Women's Soccer vs. Boise State @ Sun Devil Soccer Stadium The Arizona State women's soccer team has not advanced past the first round in the NCAA tournament since George W. Bush had strong approval ratings, but the team's hopes are sky-high this year. The Sun Devils return a corps of starters from the team that finished fourth in the Pac-12, and those starters have led the team to a 4-1 record so far.
The Sun Devils will look to build on that strong performance on Friday at 4:30 p.m. when they host the Boise State Broncos at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium, 655 South Athletes Place in Tempe. The players to watch will be ASU forwards Cali Farquharson and Devin Marshall. The duo have combined to score an electric 12 goals in the team's first five games.
