Final Friday @ Downtown Tempe
It's ba-aack. Final Friday festivities run amok in downtown Tempe tonight. The art crawl has six stops (marked by droplets on the map above), and one art hunt (with stops marked by skulls), in which James B. Hunt hid some of his works around the city. Sail Inn hosts another Art A Gogh-Gogh, and this go-round it's celebrating local female artists and musicians with live art from Angela Smith and a performance from The Sugar Thieves. Check out group art shows at The Fixx and Wet Paint, plus art partying at Open Source Project, Taste of Tops, and Cartel.
SMoCA Lounge Grand Opening
The long-awaited gallery space and crimson-colored hangout opens tonight, and will be open until 10 p.m. Try the lounge's cocktails, along with ice cream samples from Rudy Speerschneider, and a breakdancing-meets-painting performance from Joseph "Sentrock" Perez. As this evening also serves as the kickoff of SMoCA's fall season, all of the museum's exhibitions will be on view. Admission is free to the lounge, and to the museum after 5 p.m.
Pumpkin Spectacular @ Trunk Space
Trunk Space packs a lot into one eerie evening with its Seventh Annual Pumpkin Spectacular on Saturday. Dr. Zombie's Movie Lab of Terror! presents a screening of the black and white horror flick Robot Monster. California's Slow Poisoner brings the swamp rock, and Space Alien Donald drops beats. Bring a pumpkin for carving so it can be included in the traditional gourd group portrait. The fun starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free if you arrive before 7:30 and $6 after.
Ben's 20th Annual Halloween Bash @ The Clarendon
Yep, Ben Bethel, who owns The Clarendon, is hosting his famed Halloween party for the twentieth consecutive year. DJ William Reed will man the turntables as attendees fiercely compete for prizes (including some stellar travel packages) in the costume contest, strutting down the Clarendon's catwalk. This year, Ben's added a luminarias ceremony to the bash. The party starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, and tickets are $25. P.S. - If you book a room at the hotel, a part wristband is complimentary.
Dia de los Muertos @ Desert Botanical Garden
Get cultured at the garden's annual Dia de los Muertos celebrations. Sunday's activities include La Procesion, at 5 p.m., a walk of pageantry, symbolizing the traditional march to the burial site of loved ones. While you're there, scope out artworks and sample sugar skulls at the mercado, and the commemorative, colorful ofrendas on display. Entrance to the celebration is included in garden admission, which is $18 for adults.
