As the D-Backs fight their way through the weekend and keep ball fans on the edge of their seats, those who need a break from nail biting have plenty of other options for fun.
BBQ Skate Jam @ Foothills Sk8 Court Plaza
Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life @ FilmBar
Comic book artist and director Joann Sfar's Serge Gainsbourg biopic plays at the Phoenix theater on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. Show up around 7:30 donning your most convincing Gainsbourg getup (ladies, go for either Brigitte Bardot or Jane Birkin) and compete against other costumed fans of the French pop singer-songwriter. Tickets to see the movie are $7, but hanging out and pretending to be French, and somewhat lecherous, is free. Stick around after the movie for a French pop dance night.
Steampunk Milliner's Top Hat & Box Craft Workshop @ Evermore Nevermore
If ever you've thought to yourself, "Wow. If only I had a miniature top hat." Then this one's right up your alley. At 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jeri Housel hosts a craft class where participants create steampunk top hats that are one-third the size of regular dapper topoers. The workshop costs $35, with basic supplies included. Spaces are limited, so if you want to attend get there early.
Sun Devil Club Tailgate @ 6th Street and Packard Drive
Prep your pitchforks for the Trojans and get into game mode starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday at this free tailgate. There will be beer and barbecue aplenty, plus other college ball games airing on big screens. See location details here.
