FMLY is a collective out of L.A. that's teaming up with Robbie Pfeffer of Tempe Starving Artist to host PHX FMLY Fest, an arts-focused event that brings together more than 60 bands, plus visual artists, poets, and performers. Also on the schedule are a zine exchange and interactive art displays.
The free, all-ages event takes place from 1 to 11 p.m. on Friday along Fifth Street between Roosevelt and Garfield streets.
New Queer's Eve @ Rogue Bar If you're prepared to ring in 2013 on what is technically New Year's Eve's eve's eve's eve, get yourself to Rogue Bar for an evening of delightfully depraved drag entertainment during New Queer's Eve. Catch punk-inspired performances from hostess Holly Pena Popper, along with Piper, Ninah Leven, Angela, and Gia. Craig Citizen will be up in the mix between acts. The fun starts at 9 p.m. on Friday. There's no cover.
Fiesta Bowl Parade @ Central Phoenix Southwestern flair reigns supreme during the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation's annual Fiesta Bowl Parade. Olypmic swimmer Missy Franklin will serve as grand marshal of the festivities, which will include appearances from Fiesta Bowl Band Championship competitors, winners of the Fiesta Bowl Twirl-Pom-Cheer and Flag Championship, and the Fiesta Bowl Queen and Court. The parade rolls out at 11 a.m., and its route is along Central Avenue. Admission is free, though reserved seating is available for $25.
Holidays at the Heard @ Heard Museum The tree's dying, and the menorah stands ignored on the mantel. The holidays are all but over, and it's likely those reserves of jolly you've stored up are tapped by now. Instead of mustering up the courage to brave New Year's Eve, hit up to the decidedly mellow Holidays at the Heard. With daily performances of music and dance, plus artist demonstrations and booksignings, there's plenty to see and do. The event occurs daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Monday, December 31, at Heard Museum. Adult admission is $18.
Ralphie May @ Stand Up Live They say that the way you start a new year is indicative of what it will bring. So, to close out this year with loads of laughter, courtesy of Ralphie May, seems like a good call. May will perform at various times Friday through Monday at Stand Up Live. Tickets to the 18-plus shows are $25, and there's a two-drink minimum.
