After saying farewell to its Chandler location back in September of 2013, Xico Arte y Cultura, a local Latin and Native American arts nonprofit, has finally completed its move to Phoenix, opening up a community space and gallery at Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. Buckeye Commerce Center.

Located at 1008 E. Buckeye Road, Suite 220, near the intersection of Seventh Street and Buckeye Road, the new, 3,000-square-foot facility will host art exhibitions, monotype print-making, business meetings, artists-in-residence, and community workshops.

Just in time for First Friday, Xico will be hosting a grand opening reception and inaugural art exhibition attended by Phoenix District 8 Councilwoman Kate Gallego. The exhibition, entitled "Virginia's FAVs (Fridas, Angels and Virgins)," will pay tribute to Xico's late board member Virgina E. Cárdenas by showcasing the works of some her favorite local artists and subjects.

This event will be one of many designed by Xico to support not only the indigenous cultures of Arizona but also the artists who represent them.

"With new programming opportunities for artists, our new space will help Xico quickly become a stronger organization, and also an organization that can have a bigger impact on the lives of more aspiring artists," says Donna Valdes, executive director at Xico, in a press release issued Friday, September 26.

Xico's grand opening and reception for "Virginia's FAVs (Fridas, Angels and Virgins)" will run from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, October 3. Guests can RSVP by visiting the event on Facebook, contacting [email protected], or calling 480-833-5875. For more information, visit xicoinc.org.
