C.A.S.A. Tempe

Benjamin Leatherman
C.A.S.A. SunBá takes the idea of a stylish Tempe drinkery and turns it inside out, literally. There aren’t any pool tables, dart boards, or even walls to speak of at this completely outdoor establishment that’s perched on the Sixth Street sidewalk and comprised of an open air bar, two levels of patio seating, and little else. Flocks of umbrellas, scores of overhead fans, a heavy-duty misting system, and ice-cold cocktails in plastic mini-buckets keep everyone chill in warmer climes with space heaters and hot toddies for the colder months. The wealth of better-than-average brews and primo spirits are always good year-round, as are any of the O.G. Burritos that meals unto themselves with such entrée-like names and fillings as “Thanksgiving Dinner,” “Chinese Take Out,” and “The Steak House.” There’s room enough for a small stage and set of turntables, which means occasional live entertainment to go along with the non-stop parade of freaks and geeks along nearby Mill Avenue.
