Scottsdale is mostly known in the food scene for its upscale restaurants that specialize in just about every type of global cuisine. What can be hard to find is an old-fashioned, down-to-earth Mexican joint where the food is good and cheap. Lucky for us, La Fonda Del Sol, located on the corner of Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard, offers the best of both worlds. There you’ll find simple selections like chicken enchiladas and cheese crisps served alongside ritzier fare like octopus a la plancha and ceviche. And to go with it all, there’s an unlimited supply of fresh salsas and guacamole served with excellent tortilla chips. The best time of day to stop by is for lunch, when there’s an affordable all-you-can-eat buffet. The interior is casual and won’t provide the Old Town flair of places like Barrio Queen and Distrito, but you’ll get out of there just as full with a much happier wallet.
