La Reina Michoacana

The Mexican state of Michoacán is located on the Pacific Ocean just outside of Mexico City. Often referred to as “the soul of Mexico,” its location makes it a bit of a melting pot for cuisine, a hub for traditional eats as well as foreign infusions. La Reina Michoacana, then, as the “Queen of Michoacán” serves something like Mexican soul food, including tortas and tacos. In particular, try the antojitos (street food) like elote en vaso, corn off the cob with a choice of toppings like mayonnaise, butter, cheese, chili, limon, and salt. There are simple desserts inside this no frills restaurant too, like chamoyadas, a sweet and sour icy raspado with pickled fruit, chili powder, and peanuts, and escamochas, a fruit salad with sweetened cream topped with pecans, coconut, and granola. The bright yellow sweet-centric shop also serves a mean paleta in a variety of fruit and cream flavors.
