Westwind Studios

Westwind is a converted complex that features 12 units available for studio and living space. The building used to house a historic roadside motel. Each of the spaces is intended for local graduate students, artists, designers, and other creative professionals. It re-opened in 2010 in conjunction with Art Detour Weekend and hosted a different exhibition in each art space. The most impressive in our minds was the performance art by ASU art professor Adriene Jenik, who made charcoal marks on the wall to represent Iraqi deaths. It was powerful and unlike some of the other mini-exhibitions, didn't involve streamers or 3D glasses. You'll recognize the Westwind building as you drive down 16th street by the beautiful mural painted on its side by another ASU art teacher, Amanda Adkins.
