1. Jason Devore/The Bollox at Club Red
If you can't wait until next weekend for Authority Zero's show at the Marquee Theatre here's the next best thing: Vocalist Jason Devore will not only be doing a solo acoustic performance at Club Red, he's also bringing along his Irish punk side project The Bollox for the ride. The packed line-up also includes two stages worth of bands, including Names of the Innocent, Red Republic, Miles to Nowhere, The Shallow Type, and others. 8 p.m., $5. 2. Eight-Year Anniversary Party at Suede (Friday)
The year 2001 featured two big additions to Scottsdale's nighttime milieu: SIX Lounge and Suede. Both swanketerias quickly became hotspots for the Dolce & Gabbana-wearing big sunglasses set, not to mention many a celebutante. Flash forward to present day, where SIX is padlocked and gathering dust after a recent brouhaha between it's management and property owner over unpaid rent. Meanwhile, there party's still rocking over at Suede, which it throwing a furious fiesta in honor of having survived for eight years as well as it's recent remodeling. Tone Loc is being flown in for the occasion, DJ Circle will man his laptop as usual, and complimentary X-Rated vodka and Skyy cocktails are available until 10 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m., $9. 3. Obscura at the Ruby Room (Friday)
Fans of Europop, indie bands, 80s music and are likely to experience a massive joygasm after peeping a list of songs that Roya and Manchester broadcast during a typical edition of Obscura, which is held on the second Friday of every month. It's populated with names like Bananarama, Joy Division, The Ting Tings, Vampire Weekend, and (of course) Morrissey. Equally delight-inducing are the monthly CD and ticket giveaways the DJ duo doles out at each night, which in this case is copies of Sonic Youth's The Eternal and Placebo's Battle for the Sun, both of which dropped this week. Show up before 10:30 p.m. and get $1.50 beers and $2.50 well drinks. 9 p.m., $5. (717 South Central Avenue, 602-258-6900)
4. JJCnV at the Trunk Space (Friday)
Is it just us, or does it seem like every major metro area in the United States is mandated to have at least one whacked-out band clad in weird and wild outfits? In the case of Phoenix, said group is JJCnV, who astound (and often offend) their listeners with goofy-ass theatrics and songs. 9 p.m., $6. (1506 Grand Avenue, 602-256-6006).
5. DIYcon at Comics Zone (Saturday)
A who's who of local underground comic book creators and fanzine-makers will provide copies of their latest publications, as well as advice on how to, er...do it yourself. Live music starts at 5 p.m. and includes performances by Brad the One-Man Damned, Leftover, and The Great Unconformity. Noon, free. (5909 North Granite Reef Road, Scottsdale, 480-483-2685)
6. Joe Draper's CD Release Party at Last Exit (Saturday)
Almost six weeks have passed since former Loveblisters manager Jack Maverik took over at Last Exit, and thing have never been better at the Tempe venue. Plenty of beers and booze is getting sold, there's plenty of bodies occupying it's many barstools, and new pinball machine is a blast to play. (And to think that as little as two months ago the place almost went teets up.) Plus the live musc schedule is filled with gigs by an eclectic selection of some of this town's best bands, like the talented Joe Draper Band, who are holding marking the release of their newly-released album with an evening of high-energy alt-rock. Random Karma, Haven James, and Phantom 55 guest star. One-buck PBRs will be served from 8 to 10 p.m., with $2 Last Exit shots and Bud Drafts available until last call. 9 p.m., $5. 7. Stitch Hopeless and the Sea Legs at the Rogue West (Saturday)
Despite what you many think, the East Valley doesn't have the market cornered on cool club shows. To wit: the dour pompadoured hepcats of SHATSL will be joined by bass-slinging growlers of Buried in Red and Desolate Graves as they provide a triple threat of blood-splattered psychobilly at the westside bar. Eat your heart out Hollywood Alley. 9 p.m., $6. (3593 West Northern Avenue, 602-841-6411)
8. The Michael Easterday Band at Tom Ryan's (Saturday)
Move over Jordin Sparks, there's another Arizona-born singer who's landed some fame from reality TV. In this case it's Michael Easterday, the 24-year-old Valley native (and recent ASU grad) who went pretty far on Country Music Television's Music City Madness competition last fall. Although he didn't win the big enchilada, which included an audition in front of A&R scouts from Warner Bros. Records, the good ol' boys at Tom Ryan's think the guitarist is aces. It's probably why they keep booking him to sing on their stage, much like he'll do when he appears with his backing band this weekend. Keep a hanky handy for his mournful ballad "Why Didn't I Kiss Her," which is guaranteed to put a tear in your beer. 9 p.m., free. (70 West Warner Road, Chandler, 480-792-1699)
9. Danny NSK Benefit at Jugheads (Sunday)
Danny Marianino is known by many as "that one dude from the North Side Kings who punched Danzig the fuck out." And while that's completely true (click here for the video proof) the hefty vocalist is more than just an oft-repeated YouTube clip. He's a rather big-hearted brutha who's considered to be a major icon in amongst our fair city's punk and hardcore crowd. So much so that his friends are pitching in to support the dude in his hhour of need. Last Wednesday, the south Scottsdale home occupied by Marianino and his family was gutted by a four-alarm fire, torching all of their worldly possessions. As a result, his pals are putting on a massive benefit for Danny, which features music from Pelvic Meatloaf, The Liars Handshake, Hillbilly Devilspeak, Red Son, Hooves, Out for Revenge, and OSS. A sweet slection of swag will also be raffled off, including beach cruisers, skateboards, and tickets to upcoming punk concerts like Social Distortion and Blink 182. 6 p.m., $8. 10. RPM Orchestra at the Washouse (Sunday)
Is the hamper in your apartment (or even the apartment itself) overflowing with a three-week-old build-up of dirty clothes? Sunday night's a perfect time to give those togs a good washing, so drag a bag of your stinkiest garments down to this grungy Laundromat and get ready to start pumping quarters. While your American Apparel V-Necks and Chuck Taylors are going through the spin cycle, the idiosyncratic musicians of the RPM Orchestra will generate their whacked-out brand of ambient experimental noise. 9 p.m., free. (1025 North 7th Street)
