20 Photos from Fatboy Slim's DJ Gig at Maya Day & Nightclub

That's because they openly took shots at the British-born big beat icon Fatboy Slim during his DJ set on the most American of holidays at the Old Town spot, the Treaty of Paris be damned. And their, ahem...weapon of choice? A couple of the numerous beach balls that frequent the establishment, two of which we witnessed while photographing the event (check out the full slideshow from the swim party).

Fatboy Slim didn't seem to be too troubled either time he got pelted by such inflatable ordinance. Instead, he simply gave a wry smile and showed off some of his unflappable British charm before tossing the balls to the side and started firing back with high-energy beat-juggling via Maya's sound system.

And it was a nearly two-hour set that didn't disappoint. As the crowd of Maya revelers -- many of whom were clad in red, white, and blue apparel and swimwear -- pumped fists, danced away, or splashed around in the pool, Fatboy Slim dropped bits and pieces from some of his own tracks ("Praise You," "Fucking in Heaven," "Song for Lindy," and "Eat Sleep Rave Repeat" among others) blended with heavy-duty dollops of house and electronica tracks by others.

Although EDM fans may have become accustomed (or, as some might say, conditioned) to superstar DJs and producers bombarding them with mega-mixes consisting of their biggest and most epic hits, Fatboy Slim went the other direction and used a less-is-more approach, preferring the epic beats of others instead of over-shilling his own voluminous discography.

And he did it with much shimmying and singing along behind the mixers and helped bring the hurly-burly of the afternoon-long Independence Day pool party, which had been raging since before the late morning, to a high-energy climax at dusk.
