I have a feeling this Friday night is going to be one of those nights where I'm so overwhelmed with art options, I become socially paralyzed and don't know what to do with myself.
Already, we've got Third Friday art walk and the ASU Kurt Weiser opening, but I'll just take the liberty of adding another event to the list.
From 7-9 p.m. this Friday, Will Wilson and Steven Yazzie will hold an informal reception for their joint show, "New Works" in the Berlin Gallery at the Heard Museum Shop.
Wilson is a fine art photographer (among other things) of Navajo
descent. In his new works, he asserts specific imagery in hopes to
empower other Native Americans to "control one's own representation".
He focuses on the Navajo people's relationship to the land - the very
land he feels isolated from.
Stephen Yazzie focuses on land as well but grapples with the collision
of urban landscapes and nature. His paintings depict just that - a mix
of both worlds to lend opportunity for viewers to consider their
impact, whether harmonious or damaging, to the natural world.
The show is only up until the 25th, so this may have to be at the top of the list for Friday.
