Throwing in The Knux, !!!, Passion Pit, John Vanderslice, Girl Talk, Phoenix, The Virgins, Dr. Dog and Blitzen Trapper helps round things out nicely. Hell, they even got the B-52's, Toadies and Sonic Youth for those fans clamoring to recreate the summer of 1991. These bands also prove that your 2009 music festival must include some older acts to have any hopes of selling tickets.
This lineup makes me applaud Coachella for branching out and compiling a lineup that is much unlike any other festival this season -- no one but Goldenvoice, the folks in charge of Coachella, has the balls to book a band like Throbbing Gristle. However, comparing Coachella and ACL is apples and oranges. I commend ACL for booking such a youthful lineup and not pandering to older fans like Coachella ever so shamelessly does. It's just too bad that ACL's young, hip lineup looks exactly like the lineups of both Outside Lands and Lollapalooza.
The Austin City Limits Music Festival runs October 2-4 in Austin's Zilker Park. Three-day passes will set you back $185 -- a pretty decent price, if you ask me. Head to aclfestival.com to take in the full lineup and find out other information about the festival.
