Local DJ and jack of all trades William Reed is a busy guy. When we spoke a couple months ago about the end of the weekly Sticky Fingers dance party, he revealed his plans to start Risky Business, a Thursday night dance party at Gypsy Bar, and his plans to focus on Blaque Panther Disco for a bit. The fruits of his efforts are paying off: his nu-disco/house collaboration with Elise Welch got signed to UK label Re: Sound Records and released its first song, "Pommes Frites" earlier this week.

"Pommes Frites" is the French word for French fries, and as the name suggests, the song has quite the Francophone influence. Hushed female vocals repeat "pommes frites" over energized beats that sound like the next big thing to come from a Kitsuné Maison compilation.

Blaque Panther Disco may be very French in its stylings, but the Arizona duo has been working closely with UK-based electronic music label Re:Sound Records. "Pommes Frites" is first in what looks to be a promising start for Blaque Panther Disco.

"This will actually be our first original production that we will have released, so it's really exciting to see in such a short time, it was only six or seven months ago when we started the project, and now we have a string of singles coming out that are being released on a label internationally," Reed told Up on the Sun in November, "We've been spending a lot of time in the studio working on original production and it's been really exciting for me because my background primarily stems from the promotions and DJ background, concerts, nightclubs, you name it, so getting in the studio and actually making music and seeing that released is something that I've never really been able to experience. It's really exciting and it's still relatively new to me, but we're just taking it one day at a time."

The "Pommes Frites" single is paired with an energized, funky remix by The Gemini Bros., another new addition to Re:Sound Records.

Blaque Panther Disco can be spotted every Sunday at C'est La Vie, a weekly dance party at Sochu House. The duo will also make an appearance at South by Southwest.
