Fairy Bones frontwoman Chelsey Louise Richard said that every song on the band's upcoming album, Dramabot, is going to have a video to go with it, and they are starting out with the album's first single, "Waiting."
The video depicts what is essentially the scariest house party you've ever seen. It was kind of like a cross between a house show, and the turkish bathhouse scene from Batman & Robin.
Okay, maybe not that scary, but it is still a bunch of neon-colored crazies doing something in a house that looks like a cross between partying and cult ritual. With one serious-looking hula-hooper.
The video was shot and edited by Shaunte Glover and directed by Richard herself. The concept was fairly simple.
"We wanted to do a really cool visual effect. We wanted it to be visually stimulating over everything else," Richard says. "There's not much of a story behind it besides there is a girl running away from something that's not defined. She chooses that house at random and thinks she's going to be safe or at least safer. But it turns out she's actually safer outside than she is inside of the crazy house."
That "crazy house" was in fact the "Bones House," in which all the members of Fairy Bones currently live.
"Every music video we have ever done has been filmed at our house," Richard says. "The entire band lives together and we don't have to go far, and we can do whatever we want at the house. We paint the walls and do all this crazy shit, and it's kinda like a blank canvas, which is ideal for an artist."
The video consists of just one shot, giving the effect of a continuous point of view of the protagonist walking through the house.
"It was a good time. It really was a kick," Richard says.
The colorful-haired lead singer talked about how important it is for a band to have a lot of content on YouTube these days, and how Fairy Bones plans on filling its channel this year with all the videos from the new album, since "that's where people discover music," she says.
Fairy Bones' next video for the album's second single, "Whipping Boy," will be released in late September.
The band also is pushing its new video in hopes that it will help boost its current Indiegogo campaign which closes on August 31. The band has raised just over 60 percent of its $5,000 goal.
