When you put your key in the ignition and turn on the radio, what station would play right now? I don't have a favorite station -- commercial radio has for far too long been lazy. There was a time you could call into a radio station and ask for any track -- even an obscure track -- and they would actually play it -- yes, I'm that old. I listen to CD's or my mp3 player.
What's the first album you bought? I can't remember the first album I bought, but it was either a Beatles or a Who album, for sure.
What's the first concert you saw? The first concert I saw was Rush at Alpine Valley in Illinois.
What's your favorite concert you've ever been to? My favorite concert was definitely Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band -- they played for almost 3 hours straight. Just f-ing amazing.
What's the last song played on your music player? Last song on my music player was "So Like Candy," by Elvis Costello.
Preferred format: CD, vinyl, cassette, 8-Track or digital? I have given my soul over to digital because of the quality, but I would still love an 8-track and a book of matches (for those of you old enough to get the reference.)
What's your favorite album? Favorite album? Wow, that's a tough one. But if I was on a desert island with only one to choose, The Beatles "The White Album." Or The Who, Quadrophenia. Or Steely Dan, Aja. Or...you get the picture.
Who is your favorite singer or band? Favorite singer? Al Green. No one can touch his voice, ever -- that's a fact. Favorite band? Another tough one. Beatles, followed very closely by The Who, Steely Dan, Miles Davis.
What band do you wish was still together? I wish the original Guns N' Roses were still together. It would be cool to see Axl perform when he still looked like he gave a damn.
Does you computer track how many times you've played something -- if so, what's at the top of the list? I don't know if my computer keeps track, but I play The Beatles almost every day.
What was your favorite new or new-to-you album from the past year? The Mars Volta, Noctourniquet. Just amazing -- probably the most interesting band today. Too bad they don't get as much run here in the U.S. as they do overseas.
What one song would you play if you had a world-wide radio audience? If I had a worldwide audience, I'd make them listen to Ben Harper's "Jah Work." Great song and a positive message.
Who is your favorite local singer or band? I guess I'd have to say either The Reign Kings or Vinyl Station. Really great music, great musicianship, and groups of very righteous dudes.
What is your favorite local venue to see music? That's tough -- the sound is usually pretty crappy in most venues (not the sound guy's fault, by the way, just the way most rooms are laid out -- not very conducive for great live audio), but the Rhythm Room isn't so bad.
What is your favorite music video? Prince, "When Doves Cry." That video changed the way I looked at music videos and their importance to music.
