Little Big Town Cancels Fourth of July Show at Salt River Fields

If you had plans to attend the Fourth of July outdoor concert by Little Big Town at Salt River Fields, said plans just went kaboom like a skyrocket. Word broke earlier today that the performance by the country music act on Saturday, July 4 — which was part of the two-day Independence Day Music Festival at the Scottsdale baseball park — has been canceled.

Both the band and local concert promoter Danny Zelisko, who was helping put on the festival, released statements this morning announcing the cancellation, which stemmed from Little Big Town vocalist Jimi Westbrook needing surgery to remove a polyp growing on his vocal cord.

The band posted the following on its website earlier today: “With heavy hearts, we want to let you guys know that Jimi will have to undergo surgery next week to remove a polyp on his vocal cord. As a result, doctors have ordered him to rest his voice and completely recuperate before we continue touring.”

Little Big Town also canceled or postponed dates in several other cities besides their July 4 date at Salt River Fields.

As a result of Little Big Town’s cancellation, the second day of the Independence Day Music Festival – which was also scheduled to include singer-songwriter Brandy Clark and local acts The Herndon Brothers Band and The Senators opening for Little Big Town – has also been called off. If you'd like a refund, its available at the original point of purchase. 

Thankfully, the cancellation doesn’t affect the much-anticipated first day of the festival featuring Wilco, Dr. Dog, and Banana Gun on Friday, July 3, at the stadium, which is still scheduled to take place. Tickets from the July 4 portion of the festival are good for entry into thatshow.
