Now Closed: Firehouse in Scottsdale

Scottsdale bar and nightspot Firehouse has been extinguished. The hybrid dance club, sports bar, and lounge located along Drinkwater Boulevard in the city's entertainment district reportedly closed its doors a few weeks back.

On June 16, Firehouse's Facebook page changed its cover photo to a picture of a "Sorry, We're Closed!" sign, because, you know, it was.

A couple of weeks before that, the following message was posted: "Thank you for all the great memories! We have closed our Scottsdale location for a full remodel. See you in a few months!"

In other words, the place is reconcepting. A peek inside it windows confirms this, as some of its furnishings and bar equipment have been removed for the impending reboot.

Meanwhile, Firehouse's sister location at Mill Avenue and University Drive in Tempe, which opened in September 2012, is alive and well.

Firehouse Scottsdale's closure pretty much coincided with the annual summertime exodus of college kids (a.k.a. its primary audience) after the end of the school year -- a fact that was illustrated by another Facebook message around the time of its closure congratulating recent grads and urging them to go celebrate at the Tempe location and "party like ASU's reputation depends on it."

However, the college crowd and others in that same demographic had been shying away from Firehouse Scottsdale in recent months. It was a major Old Town hotspot (no pun intended) when it first opened, and for a few years thereafter, because it offered a party-friendly vibe, events like lingerie nights, a great selection of local DJs, a lively social mix out on its enormous outdoor patio, and a popular after-hours that went to 4 a.m. on weekends.

Firehouse was famous for it's after-hours (as was Mickey's Hangover, the late-night bar and restaurant that was formerly located at the same property in the Aughts) and drew in insomniacs by the hundreds. The crowd lessened over the last year or so, however, until its owners decided to snuff the place out.
