Coming to Tempe for the fourth consecutive year, South By South Roosevelt (SXSR) lands in the front yard of 919 South Mitchell this Friday hoping to create another unique experience for the local music heads as well as the occasional passerby. Seeing a renewed local interest, SXSR has expanded to two days and added another venue for the following Saturday along with a slew of hometown rockers, crooners, hula hoopers, and hand twirlers.

Last year's affair seemed to have a pall cast over it as clouds moved in unexpectedly and showered the participants for much of the afternoon, turning what should have been a sunny Saturday into a soggy slog. As Joe Golfen of The Lonesome Wilderness recalls "Last year, it was just pouring rain and we were wondering if the festival would get cancelled, but Pete sent out a message saying the show would go on. We got down there and it had cleared up a bit, so we kicked off the festival with our set."

The gloomy spirit was soon washed away by the overwhelming energy of the performers as the organizers were quick to put up shelters from the storm. As beaded and braided ribbon dancers began to brave the weather and unfurl their colorful tools, the groundwork for a riotously good time had been laid.

This year's festival aims to bring back that feeling with a new goal: collecting donations to fund a showcase at next year's SXSW in Austin, TX.
