The Valley's Biggest Beatsmiths Battle for Supremacy Tonight at PHX Nightclub

Who's got the illest beats in all of the 'Nix? Could it be Young Seph, who helped create tracks for Jim Jones and 40 Glocc? Or maybe it's Slopfunkdust, the ultra-skilled Beat Society DJ/producer and member of the Rawkus Records crew.

We'll get the answer later tonight, as both will be going head-to-head against 10 other local beatsmiths and hip-hop producers during the Red Bull Big Tune competition going at the PHX Nightclub (122 East Washington Street, 602-258-1830).

Never been to a beat battle before? Hit the jump for an explanation of what's in store, fool, as well as a list of who's gonna pop off with their sickest shit and some video clips of the contenders in action.

Here's the 411: Participants will pit their freshest instrumental jams (a.k.a. the non-lyrical portion of hip-hop songs) that they've created utilizing samplers, turntables, and other tools of the trade against their opponents in single-elimination style. The competition promises to be fierce, as evidenced by this video of Young Seph creating some of his intoxicating beats

After schooling their rivals, the top two beat-makers from tonight will go on to the national Red Bull Big Tune finals in October in the ATL, with the winner getting to collaborate with a big-name hip-hop/R&B superstar. Sounds pretty choice, no? It's probably why some of the sickest local talent is going be battling tonight in downtown P-Town. The list of competitors includes G-Unit producer Taurus Scott, as well as Deuce Wilde, who's worked with the PHX's Sol Camp and Yung Money.

Here's the rest on the line-up:

- Amplified
- Ei-Jay
- Inertia
- Lifted
- 21
- Mustafah Beats
- RTC Shogun
- Traumah

Doors open at 9 p.m., with the beat battle royale starting around 9:30 p.m. L.A. producer (and 50 Cent collaborator) DJ Khalil and the hip-hop artists of Pacific Division will also cap off the evening with a performance. Admission is free and there will be specials on  Red Bull drinks (natch) all night. Hit up www.redbullbigtune.com for more info.
