Child pop stars have been making it big for ages. I'm not talking about teens who hit it big from their participation in the Mickey Mouse Club; I'm talking about the Osmonds and Stevie Wonder.
And don't forget Michael Jackson; he was kind of a big deal.
Now new child pop stars are taking over!
The latest sensation is Will and Jada Pinkett Smith's fashion forward nine-year-old daughter Willow Smith. Yesterday she announced that she has been signed by Jay-Z to Roc Nation.
Damn, girl!
She has just released her very first single called "Whip My Hair." Considering she's got a voice that's fairly mature for her age, I'm sure that intense airplay and maybe even remixes can be expected shortly. It's catchier than some of what's playing on Top 40 radio stations these days. The best part is when she calls out to "all my ladies, if you feel me," because it's precious that she's trying to say something Beyoncé would say. Knowing that Little Miss Thing has so much spunk, sass and creativity for such a young kid makes me excited to watch her succeed. Give this precious little stunna a listen:

Willow sounds like she's really got something going for herself. Generally, though, I hate when stars suck their children into artistic projects just because of their own status. Why on earth does anyone feel it's necessary for their nine-year-old kid to have a single?
Why?
And Jay-Z, even though I respect you, I need to know, is it really worth promoting a child just because her parents are a big deal? The music industry really needs to stop making certain things happen just because they can.
And don't even get me started about Justin Bieber.
