We get many a blurb here at Alt-Weekly Central, many of which we pass along to the proper authorities (ie: our Night & Day editor) and some of which we dump in the circular file (or push the delete button on our computer).
One that came in earlier today caught our eye, especially the subject line that said something about "No-Nut Sunday" at Chase Field.
We are painfully aware of the D-Backs' early-season troubles, and have wondered if maybe a nut or two in the bullpen -- someone like the St. Louis Cardinals' over-the-top "Mad Hungarian" Al Hrabowsky -- might stir things up out there.
And with attendance already plummeting (just 17,000 or so announced at the last home game), maybe a few more nuts in the crowd wouldn't be a bad idea, just for the hell of it.
So, we read on:
Come to find out that the Diamondbacks are teaming up with the Phoenix Allergy Network and something called the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network for two games designed for fans with, you guessed it, food allergies.
For this Sunday's 1:10 p.m. game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the team is opening some so-called "peanut-controlled" suites for $25 a ticket.
The suites will be especially cleaned for the game, and participants will have to sign a waiver promising not to bring peanuts or peanut products into the area.
So, none of that "Buy me some peanuts and Crackerjacks" sing-songing this Sunday at the yard, at least up in the special suites.
And who knows?
If the D-Backs somehow eke out a win on "Nut Day," they might want to go supersititious and stick it awhile.
Anything to turn things around on what already has become a dismal flippin' season.
