Mystery writer J.A. Jance, whose best-selling novels are often set in Arizona, will host a free reading at the Burton Barr Central Library on August 1.
We read one Jance book a few years back, Desert Heat, which is part of a series of novels about a female sheriff in southern Arizona. To be honest, we found it about as satisfying as an unsalted rice cake, but it did move us along to the end. Fortunately for her, she's got better fans than us: Simon and Schuster says she's got more than 10 million copies of her books in print.
Jance has residences in both Bisbee and Seattle.
Here are the event details from the city of Phoenix:
The reading is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, in the Pulliam Auditorium at 1221 N. Central Avenue.
She'll offer a signing of her latest novel, Fire and Ice, after the program.
