Governor Jan Brewer wrote the Environmental Protection Agency Monday, warning that new regulations being imposed on the state could close the Navajo Generating Station that provides electricity to Central Arizona Project canals.
NGS runs on coal and has come under criticism from environmental groups.
A cow could fart in China and draw criticism from certain environmental groups, so Brewer feels there are more "reasonable ways" to achieve the environmental gains necessary to appease the critics.
The plant employs 545 people and helps run the 336-mile canal that brings water from the Colorado River to Phoenix.
Brewer says closing the plant would be devastating to Arizona in terms of jobs and the cost and availability of water.
