The American Lung Association of Arizona is gearing up for a fundraiser this fall that will have participants bounding up the stairs at downtown Phoenix's Renassiance Square.

"Climb Phoenix" is a "vertical road race" that will have individuals or teams climbing the staircases of the Square's two towers, for a total of 1,272 steps.

The group had planned a similar event last year, but it was canceled for some reason. This year's stair-climbing event, scheduled for October 25, is still under development: A Lung Association Web site states that no money has been raised yet, but there's an "early bird" special for participants who sign up before October 1.

The cost is a bit steep: $35-$50 for the registration, plus a $100 donation by the day of the race. If you donate $150, you get the bitchin' T-shirt seen below.
