A drunk Mesa woman was arrested yesterday after assaulting both her mother-in-law and father-in-law -- but that's not the gross part; as police tried to subdue her, she spit blood at the arresting officers, landing some in one officer's mouth.
According to Mesa police, about 6 p.m. yesterday, officers responded to a home in the 200 block of West Juniper Street in Mesa. Inside the home, police spoke with 32-year-old Alena Artega and her in-laws.
The responding officers determined that Artega had assaulted her mother-in-law. At one point, Artega had her hands around the woman's neck, which is when Artega's father-in-law punched her in the mouth to get her to let go of his wife.
The punch -- as the officers would soon find out -- caused Artega to bleed from her mouth.
Artega, who police say was "drunk and belligerent" at the time, refused
to sit in the officers' patrol car. So, as the officers tried to
physically put her in the car, she spit blood "all over the two
officers."
As we noted, blood ended up in the mouth of one of the officers and all over the uniform of the other.
Artega allowed officers to draw her blood to test for possible diseases to which the officers may have been exposed.
Artega was booked on aggravated assault charges,
