Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer involved in foot pursuit with wanted felon

Suspect run over by truck he was attempting to hide under

At 6:44 a.m. today, an Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) Motor Officer was at the intersection of 51st Avenue and McDowell when he saw a silver 4-door Chrysler Sebring run the red light southbound. The Officer made a U-turn and stopped the vehicle at the southwest corner of the intersection in the McDonald's parking lot. The officer walked up to the vehicle and asked the suspect for his driver's license. After giving the officer his license, the suspect got out of the car and fled on foot northbound on 51st avenue through the intersection eventually disappearing behind a 7/11 store. At that point the suspect hid underneath a truck belonging to a moving company that was parked at that location. Minutes later the driver of the truck, not knowing the suspect was underneath, attempted to drive away, running over the suspect in the process.

The Officer was close to the incident when it occurred and, when realizing the suspect had been run over, was able to keep the moving truck from leaving the scene. The officer then detained the suspect who was complaining of back pain. The Suspect is Shawn L. Holden, 26, of Phoenix. Holden's driver license had been suspended and revoked. In addition, he has two active felony warrants for DUI and leaving the scene of a hit and run collision.

After being treated for his injuries, Holden will be arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail.

At this time the Phoenix Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation into the incident while the Arizona Department of Public Safety will conduct an administrative investigation.
