Unlike several GOP members of the Arizona state Legislature (see all their names right here), Flake doesn't see President Barack Obama as a Kenyan version of the Manchurian Candidate, and has a message for those who do: "get off this kick."
In an interview with CNN's Kiran Chetry this morning, Flake was the latest to set the record straight about the president's citizenship, saying "Barack Obama is a citizen of the country. We ought to get off this kick. And there are plenty of differences we have with the president between Republicans and Democrats than to spend time on something like this."
Flake should teach a seminar on time management at the Arizona State Capitol, where a few weeks ago, 41 members of the Arizona state Legislature signed on to re-introduce the "Birther Bill," which would require anyone who wants to run for president or vice-president to prove their U.S. citizenship before their name's allowed on the ballot in Arizona -- even though it happens to already be a federal requirement to land either job.
Thankfully, sparing Arizona any further humiliation, the bill failed in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday. However, with other pressing issues at hand, namely a pesky $2 billion budget shortfall, it's sickening to know that this is the sort of bullshit these bozos are discussing -- on the taxpayer dime, no less.
Flake's comments are in response to a recent poll conducted by Public Policy Polling, which concludes that about 70 percent of Americans aren't certain whether Obama is an American citizen -- 51 percent saying they don't think Obama was born in the U.S.
"I have a hard time believing that poll," Flake continues. "I think that most people
understand and accept the reality. The reality is that, yes, he was born
in the United States. And so I hope that's not an issue going forward."
It's like a breath of fresh air...
