Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has issued what's undoubtedly the world's whiniest response to the recently announced recall effort against him.
There's a statement from his campaign manager Chad Willems, as well as an Arpaio fundraising e-mail, in which the Sheriff asks, "Why do they hate me so much?"

The fundraising e-mail is truly what's really hilarious, considering the amount of name-calling, distortions of truth, and sense of desperation you get from team Arpaio.
"Just three weeks after I was sworn into office for a sixth term as Maricopa County Sheriff, a group of radical extremists filed a recall campaign to forcibly remove me from office," the opening line says.
The e-mail says these "left-wing groups of agitators" are the ones who already spent millions trying to defeat him. There's no mention of the millions more Arpaio used in his narrow victory.
"These sore losers just never stop," the hissy-fit continues. "They figure if they can force an election in an off-year they'll be able to turn out every pro-illegal immigrant voter and steal this election. We saw them do the very same thing to an Arizona State Senator just over a year ago."
Haha, Russell Pearce.
Next: "I have sworn an oath to protect and defend our United States Constitution probably more times than these clowns have pledged allegiance to our flag."
That's the sound of the ghost of J.T. Ready getting out his credit card and donating. Also, there can only be one person that the Justice Department says committed the worst pattern of racial profiling in American history. That's Arpaio.
Then there's Willems' press release, which is equally as pissy.
"Voters will be scratching their heads wondering why a group that calls itself 'Respect Arizona' has no respect whatsoever for the voters or the political process," Willems' statement says.
That seems strange, as we consulted this document called the Arizona Constitution, and found an article describing recalls as a perfectly acceptable process.
Remember, Respect Arizona still has four months to get the required number of signatures -- more than 300,000 -- in order to trigger the recall election.
