Former Arizona House Speaker Kirk Adams -- who's facing off against fellow Republican Matt Salmon in Arizona's Fifth Congressional District primary -- got the stamp of approval from former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.
A nod from Palin might scare the neighborhood liberals, but if history tells us anything, candidates endorsed by Palin have a decent win/loss record in elections.
There are a couple accounts of how Palin-endorsed candidates did in 2010, and if you go by the Washington Post's tally, 33 Palin-approved candidates were elected to office, while 21 were not.
Just 10 of the 64 candidates she endorse lost primary races.
Her endorsements worked half the time in Arizona, though, with Paul Gosar being elected to Congress and Senator John McCain being reelected, while Ruth McClung and Janet Contreras lost their bids to unseat Democrats Raul Grijalva and Ed Pastor.
That said, it's just an endorsement -- Palin also endorsed Congressman Jeff Flake in his Senate bid -- and she released a real Palin-sounding statement along with it.
"As one of the youngest Speakers in the history of the Arizona House of Representatives, Kirk led the fight for less government spending, lower taxes, individual freedom, and limited government," she says. "As a small businessman, he knows firsthand that entrepreneurship and small businesses (which many of us built ourselves, Mr. President) are the job creating engine of our economy. Kirk is a proven advocate of removing the crushing burdens of excessive government regulation on our small businesses, and in Congress he will fight to put government back on our side and not in our way."
Adams isn't the only one in his race with an endorsement from a somewhat crazy lady, as Salmon got the nod from Governor Jan Brewer. Actually, Salmon's endorsed by a few more nutty ladies and gentlemen, if you count Arizona legislators.
