William Gheen, founder of the anti-illegal immigration group Americans for Legal Immigration-PAC, who once told this reporter to only submit questions to him via-email so he could "shove them up [his] ass," is making some outrageous accusations about Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
At a speech in South Carolina over the weekend, Gheen told the crowd that Graham needs to "come out of that log cabin closet," and being gay is "a secret that Lindsey Graham has."
Gheen claims that because Graham's stance on immigration isn't in line with his own, the Democratic Party is threatening to expose Graham's homosexuality as leverage to get him to vote in their favor.
That's just a taste of the anti-Graham, anti-homosexual tirade on which Gheen embarked -- check out the full video after the jump (all the gay talk happens about six minutes into the clip).
Aside from being a tad on the effeminate side, and not married, there is nothing that suggests that Graham is gay other than Gheen's warped world view.
Given Gheen's infatuation with sodomizing a New Times writer with printed copies of e-mails, we gave him a call to see if he had any first-hand knowledge of Graham's sexuality that he cared to share with us.
"I've got no comment for you, James," he answered, before promptly hanging up.
Sounds like someone's still bitter.
So why should anyone in Arizona care if Lindsey Graham's gay, or if some redneck from North Carolina thinks he's gay? Because Gheen very publicly endorsed former Congressman J.D. Hayworth in the GOP Senate primary against Senator John McCain -- an endorsement Hayworth has refused to disavow, despite several opportunities and requests from the McCain campaign and the media.
Former CNN anchor Lou Dobbs, a former ALIPAC partner, already has called on Gheen to resign from the group, so we figured former Congressman Hayworth may consider taking a similar stance.
We called the Hayworth campaign to see if it wanted to reconsider disavowing ALIPAC's endorsement based on its founder's latest remarks, but Hayworth campaign spokesman Mark Sanders didn't respond to two voice-mails we left for him.
The McCain campaign was happy to offer us its two-cents, though.
"By tightly embracing the support of Mr. Gheen and ALIPAC, to peddling conspiracy theories about the President's birth certificate and man-horse marriage, Congressman Hayworth has made clear that he feels most comfortable on the extreme fringe," McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers tells New Times.
"Congressman Hayworth, he adds, "should come back to Earth and join Lou Dobbs in denouncing Mr. Gheen's outrageous statements and disavow the support of ALIPAC, which the Anti-Defamation League reports is backed by white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and anti-Semites."
