Phoenix police reported today that Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter, Exodus, who was found "unresponsive" Sunday after choking on a treadmill cord, died this morning at 11:45 a.m.

Police so far have termed the incident a "tragic accident."

The call to police about a child not breathing came in at 10:34 a.m. from Tyson's home near Palo Verde Golf Course at Bethany Home Road and 7th Avenue in Phoenix. From the initial police statement:

Phoenix police officers responded almost immediately to the scene. A 4 year old girl was found to be unresponsive. Officers began CPR immediately. Within minutes the Phoenix Fire Department responded and took over CPR and life-saving actions while transporting the child to a local hospital. As of this time the child is on life support and in extremely critical condition.

As a matter of routine, Phoenix Police investigators are conducting an investigation into this incident. Initial information developed today from officers, initial interviews and a preliminary examination of the scene indicate this was a tragic accident.

According to initial information from the mother and brother of the victim, the victim and her 7 year old brother live with their 34 year old mother at this residence. While the mother was cleaning in the house, the 4 year old child was playing separately in a playroom. The mother sent the 7 year old brother to find the 4 year old girl. He found his sister in distress and got his mother. The mother found her daughter on a treadmill with her neck on what is described as a cable that was attached to the treadmill. The mother took her daughter off the cable, called 911, and began CPR. Police officers arrived moments later. The initial radio call was of a child having been electrocuted, but this was NOT the case.

Due to all of the media attention today, and as many of you have already reported, investigators have confirmed that the father of these two children is Mike Tyson. He was out of town when notified and immediately returned to Phoenix.

Our sympathies go out to the family during this difficult time.
