he Pat Tillman Foundation is putting on a benefit on October 3 featuring author Jon Krakauer, who's got a new book out on the former Cardinals' player.
Krakauer is perhaps best known for his gripping account of tragedy on Mount Everest in 1996, Into Thin Air. As awesome as that book was, we enjoyed Into the Wild and Eiger Dreams even more. His book on Mormons, Under the Banner of Heaven, departed from his adventure theme yet had its own pleasures. Krakauer's simply a hell of a writer and we'll read this new one about Tillman, Where Men Win Glory, at some point.
The benefit's kind of high-priced, though, at $36 a head. The admission fee includes Krakauer's book, which retails for $27.95. It's worth it for fans of Krakauer and those who wish to help out the Pat Tillman Foundation, which provides scholarships for military members and their families. Krakauer will have his other books on sale and be available for autographs, according to the announcement from Changing Hands bookstore linked above.
The benefit will be held at the Dobson High School auditorium, 1501 West Guadalupe Road in Mesa. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. event. Tickets are available only at Changing Hands, 6428 South McClintock Drive in Tempe. For more information, call (480) 730-0205
