A Phoenix man was arrested yesterday after police say he tried to lure a 14-year-old boy for sex by promising him cash.
Roy Sherman, Jr, 33, of Phoenix, was arrested after police say he offered the victim $60 on June 2 to go with him to his apartment for sex. The 14-year-old, police say, was skateboarding with friends near 44th Street and McDowell Road at the time.
Sherman, Phoenix Police Sergeant Tommy Thompson tells New Times, approached the victim in his car, threw a note out the window, and drove off.
The note, according to court documents obtained by New Times, said, "I'll give you $60/cash if you come to my place, lay back, and let me blow you while I beat off." At the end of the charming offer, Sherman left his phone number.
The victim, according to Thompson, went home and told his parents who called police.
Since Sherman was so bold as to leave his phone number on the note, police didn't have a hard time tracking him down.
Phoenix PD launched an investigation and during a confrontation call between Sherman and who he thought was the victim, he admitted to writing the note. He then proposed a meeting, promising the cop posing as the boy $100 for oral sex and a massage.
Sherman went to the proposed meeting spot near 44th Street and McDowell Road -- the same place where he had made the initial offer. He was met there by police, who arrested him on the spot.
Sherman's been charged with one count of child prostitution and taken to a Maricopa County jail on $90,000 bond.
