Slide Fire Near Sedona Up to 18,500 Acres, 35 Percent Contained

The Slide Fire burning north of Sedona has grown to 18,500 acres, or nearly 29 square miles.

The effort to contain the fire, in order to stop the fire's spread, is at 35 percent completion.

The fire, which was started just north of Slide Rock State Park nearly a week ago, continues to burn north, around Oak Creek Canyon.

The Forest Service has said that about 300 structures are threatened by the fire, but pre-evacuation warnings for a few nearby subdivisions were actually lifted yesterday. The evacuation of Slide Rock State Park is still in effect, and State Route 89A is still closed between Sedona and Flagstaff.

There were almost 1,100 people working to fight the fire as of last night, according to information released by the Forest Service.

Although the Forest Service has classified the fire as "human caused" since it started last Tuesday afternoon, it looks like they're still trying to track down the exact cause:

Law Enforcement is seeking any information the public may have regarding the start of the Slide Fire and anyone of suspicion in the area on the day the fire started between Slide Rock State Park and Half Way Picnic Area. The public should call Forest Service Law Enforcement at 928-527-3511 if they have any information that might assist law enforcement in the investigation.
