Panel Discussion: Why Is There No Great Arizona Novel? at Changing Hands Bookstore
Tuesday, August 11
Drink locally, think locally. This Tuesday, New Times will present a discussion exploring the question of "The Great Arizona Novel." At Changing Hands Bookstore in Phoenix, moderator and former Arizona Republic writer Tom Zoellner will ask panelists the following question: "Despite astonishing physical beauty and an abundance of human stories, why has there been no single novel that explains Arizona's manifest contradictions?" Panelists will include former editor of University of Arizona Press Greg McNamee, Al Jazeera America cultural commentator Bill Wyman, and local Tempe author Deborah Sussman. The discussion will begin promptly at 7 p.m. and all attendees will receive $1 off all Arizona beers and wines at First Draft Book Bar during the duration of the event.
