This weekend Talavera at the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale is breaking your mom's rule about no dessert before dinner. The upcoming installment of the restaurant's Taste Talavera dinner series is called Backwards! and will offer a menu that turns the traditional idea of dinner upside down. The meal will start with something slightly sweet and finish with an appetizer-themed dessert of foie gras, rhubarb, strawberry, and a peppered biscuit. The dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and costs $65 for three courses plus wine pairings. For a reservation call 480-513-5085.

Gertrude's Four Peaks Craft Beer Dinner Saturday, August 23

Fans of chef Matt Taylor's cuisine will want to head to Gertrude's at the Desert Botanical Garden this Saturday for a craft beer dinner featuring Tempe's Four Peaks Brewing. The chef has created a four course menu for the dinner that includes chilled corn soup with Dungeness crab and ancho chili; fried pork belly with almond butter, prickly pear, and jalapeno-lime coleslaw; and rum baba with tobacco ice cream and pumpkin seed brittle. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and costs $50 a person. For a reservation call 480-719-8600.

Free Pizza at Fired Pie Saturday, August 23

The sixth location of fast-casual pizza chain Fired Pie will open this Saturday at the Collier Center in downtown Phoenix. In celebration of the occasion, the restaurant will be serving up free food from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the new restaurant. Stop by and you can get one free pizza or salad per person for dine-in only. The newest Fired Pie will be located at 201 E. Washington Street #111.

Sangria Social at Queen Creek Olive Mill Sunday, August 24

On Sunday the Queen Creek Olive Mill will host its last Sangira Social of the summer. The event runs from noon to 3 p.m. during which there will be four different types of seasonal sangria available by the glass, as well as some available by the carafe. You can sip your drink under the shade of the olive trees in the Mill's grove or head into the air-conditioned marketplace and enjoy live music from Chris Putrino. Bootleggers To-Go Program

Both the Phoenix and Scottsdale locations of Bootleggers have launched a new catering and to-go program to fit your summer barbecue or corporate event needs. The restaurant now offers take-home party platters starting at $16 per person for parties of ten or more. And for more intimate get-togethers the restaurant also offers the Boot Bird To Go, a deal that includes a whole roasted rotisserie chicken with cole slaw and tortillas for $12.
