Widely known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali will be celebrated all across the world and locally on Sunday, November 12. Diwali is part of a five-day festival which is the most important holiday in India. Celebrations include gathering with family, watching fireworks displays and exchanging sweets. Here are six spots where you can find Diwali treats around metro Phoenix.

Om Indian Bistro

Whether you want traditional Diwali sweets, like gulab jamun or barfi, or crave something more modern like eggless carrot cake, Om Indian Bistro has a sweet for every palate. The choices also include jalebi, monthal and a variety of cakes. Most treats are displayed in glass casing and are available for under $4. There are also options for traditional Indian ice cream, with flavors like mango and saffron. Those who want to gift Diwali sweets can also purchase brightly decorated boxes to keep those sweet treasures safe.

Pastries-N-Chaat offers a wide variety of selected sweets including fruit custard gajar halwa, gulab jamun, kheer (rice pudding), kaddu ka keer, double ka meeta and ras malai. These items are available in single servings or for catering. The restaurant and market also serves a variety of cakes with and without eggs including chocolate, carrot and Black Forest.

India's Flame

After enjoying a nice lunch buffet or dinner for your Diwali meal, India's Flame wants you to have options when it comes to dessert. This year, the restaurant is offering gulab jamun, pistachio and mango ice cream, ras malai and kheer. All are between $6 and $7 so, with these prices, you can order several and pick your favorite.

New India Bazaar & Cuisine

Jalebi, fried swirls of dough dipped in sugar, are a popular sweet for the holiday and New India Bazaar & Cuisine offers them fresh during Diwali. The owner of the New India Bazaar makes regular and flavored jalebi and during Diwali, the treats are sold by the pound. The market also sells a wide variety of fudgy sweets spread out on a table inside. Grab a box and a pair of tongs and pick your own selection. On the way out, if you want your Diwali night to have a special touch you can also buy fireworks to cap off your evening.

Tikka Shack

Tikka Shack has you covered for Diwali. You can create your own curry bowl or purchase an entree and finish with dessert. Gulab jamun and ras maiai are $3.50 and can be purchased individually or as a platter for $15. Upon request, cookies are also available.

Apna Bazaar Indian Groceries

A Diwali sale is happening at Apna Bazaar Indian Groceries to commemorate the holiday. If you choose to make homemade treats, one liter of ghee or clarified butter often used in Indian sweets, is on sale for $11.99. Those who rather spend the holiday enjoying Diwali sweets instead of making them can buy 20 pieces of ras malai for $11.99 or carrot halwa for $8.99. Apna Bazaar also sells traditional Indian clothing and holiday decorations.
