Six months after it closed unexpectedly, downtown Chandler's 98 South wine bar has reopened under new ownership. It opened its doors last Friday night, just in time to get some attention from folks attending last weekend's Chandler Jazz Festival.

Chef Brian Ferguson tells me that the current menu is extremely limited, and "nothing indicative of what the menu will be." (It's consists of three sandwiches at the moment.) The full menu will debut in about two weeks, featuring upscale, French-influenced bistro cuisine, from a unique selection of cheeses ("I'm on a campaign for good cheese," says Ferguson. Here, here!) to ribeye with pommes frites.

The vibe will be familiar to old regulars, but still fresh, according to Ferguson. They've installed new artwork, as well as a baby grande piano, which will be a focal point for live jazz performances at the restaurant.

98 South is located at 98 S. San Marcos Pl. in Chandler. Current hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and there is a full bar with wines and specialty martinis. Call 480-814-9800 for more info.
