Although plenty of restaurant openings have been delayed or flat-out nixed (hello, Mexican Standoff, Shell Shock, Leche, REM?), October's shaping up to be a decent month for new eateries in Scottsdale.

The most high-profile among them is The Mission, a Latin-inspired eatery that's taken over the cozy spot that housed short-lived Union Wine Bar (3815 N. Brown, a block away from SMoCA). The masterminds behind it are chef Matt Carter and business partner Terry Ellisor of Zinc Bistro, as well as Brian Raab of Merc Bar. They're currently open daily for lunch and dinner, and will start serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, beginning November 1.

If you're craving seafood, now there's a second Arizona location of McCormick & Schmick's, open daily for lunch and dinner at The Shops at Gainey Village (8777 N. Scottsdale Rd.). Interestingly, they're so obsessed with fresh fish that they actually print the menu twice a day.

I love the name of the new cafe opened by Matt and JenLyn Long of Fusion Restaurant & Lounge: Daily Dose Old Town Bar & Grill. The menu is contemporary American, with breakfast served from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and an all-day menu that starts at 10:30 a.m. Currently, Daily Dose is only open for breakfast and lunch, but dinner service will start in a month. Nope, there's no website, but Daily Dose is easy to find, at 4020 N. Scottsdale Rd., just south of Indian School; call 480-994-3673 for info.

And there's a new chain in town called Tossed, The Fashion of Salads, which opened earlier this month at The Promenade, 16495 N. Scottsdale Rd. Besides the salad schtick, they do savory crepes, sandwiches, soups, and smoothies, too.
