Afternoon Tea and the Ritz-Carlton Ends July 19 — Here's the Schedule of Events Until Then

For many years, afternoon tea at the Ritz-Carlton has been something of a rite of passage for Phoenicians. Offered Wednesday through Saturday from noon until 3, afternoon tea at the upscale hotel brought old school glamour to the Valley in a way that few other experiences could. 

Later this summer, the tradition will come to an end. 

On July 24 the Ritz-Carlton, located at 2401 East Camelback Road, will close its doors to undergo renovations and a re-branding. The hotel is expected to reopen in the winter as The Camby Hotel — but with the end of the Ritz comes the end of afternoon tea. That means your last chance to experience tea service will be on July 19. 

The good news is that longtime host and Tea Sommelier Jeffrey Hattrick has planned a few events to help Valley residents say goodbye to the beloved tea service. In addition to a final tea service on July 19, the Ritz will host several special events over the next few weeks. 

Here's the schedule: 

June 24 - 27: Tea Room open daily (noon & 3 p.m.)

Sunday, June 28: Fashion Show Tea (noon)

The Ritz-Carlton, Fashion, and Afternoon Tea…sounds like a perfect combination. Join us for an amazing informal fashion show of “little black dresses” presented by Phoenix fashion icon, Robert Black. Get a close look of some unique and glamorous vintage fashion while enjoying your Afternoon Tea.

July 1 - 7: Teddy Bear Tea (noon & 3 p.m.)

The Afternoon Tea Mascot takes center stage for the final Teddy Bear Tea. Gourmet hot chocolate with marshmallows, finger sandwiches, scones and petite pastries followed by story time with Jeffrey and a sing-a-long around the piano will make for a magical and memory-filled afternoon. Each child will receive a teddy bear as well. 

July 14 - 18: Tea Room open daily

Sunday, July 19:  Final Afternoon Tea held in The Ritz-Carlton Ballroom (3 p.m.)

The farewell event will begin at 3 p.m. with a champagne reception before a full afternoon tea service begins at 3:30. Attendees will get to check out a slideshow of photos taken by guests and locals over the many years of Afternoon Tea at the Ritz. The tea service will also feature live music from the Nicole Pesce trio.

Afternoon tea at the Ritz costs $43 per person (excluding tax and gratuity). Seating is limited and reservations are strongly recommended. Call 602-952-2424.
