86: Barra Vieja Shrimp from Mucho Gusto

In the Tempe scene, most restaurants come and go with the semester, and play off the party scene reputation of boozy Mill Ave. (We're lookin' at you, Oreganos.) Thankfully, just down the street from Mill's drunken circus, the no-frat-kids-allowed vibe at Mucho Gusto exists to ply us with margaritas in a much classier environment. A couple margs on the patio and a big platter of their Barra Vieja shrimp are all we need to forget all about the brahs and woo-girls down the way.

Mucho Gusto's Barra Vieja shrimp are an establishment classic that have existed since their inception, and with good reason because these shrimp make us want to sop up every last drop of sauce with a tasty piles of warm tortillas. A dozen large shrimp arrive smothered in a luscious cola-based sauce laced with a piquant chile heat reminiscent of a rich mole. Try it with a tamarind margarita for an extra bit of "Olé!"
