As the Trib's Jess Harter pointed out on his blog last week, "Valley chefs are the new homeless." 2009 saw many of the top toques in town become restaurant ronin after their restaurants closed or they parted ways with their employers or business partners.
But at least one of those notables will be back in action soon, according to the Republic. James Beard award-winning chef Robert McGrath, whose big budget spot REM never materialized as planned back in 2007, will be overseeing the kitchen at a new restaurant called Renegade Cafe & Canteen, opening in March at 92nd Street and Shea.
Let's hope this is the first of a 2010 turnaround trend.
