The last time we dabbled in downtown Phoenix food tours, it didn't go so well. Since then, the number of locally owned restaurants lining the streets of downtown has increased. We're crossing our fingers that the coordinators of the newest walking tour will really know how to share some of downtown's hidden gems.

Dishcrawl, a Bay Area-based idea from Tracy Lee, takes patrons on walking tours of a community's restaurants. It popped up in Scottsdale earlier this year and now it's headed downtown.

The event will take "foodies on a gourmet Dishcrawl to four distinctive restaurants in one night." The names of the participating restaurants will remain a secret until registered guests receive the tour schedule two days before the event.

Of course, that means those familiar with the downtown dining scene could be signing up for a tour of restaurants they've already visited. But Dishcrawl says the idea is to "give folks a reason to get out of the house and socially engage with each other while helping local restaurants gain exposure."

So maybe it's less about exploring new eateries and more about dining out together? We'll let you decide.

The walking tour lasts between two and four hours and costs $45 a person. That includes food at four restaurants.

Dishcrawl also announced it will debut a Tempe walking tour at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20. That event will feature only desserts. Then, Dishcrawl will be headed to Arcadia on Tuesday, April 30.
