It's that time again. We've compiled a small but meaningful list of great Twitter accounts for any Phoenix foodie to follow.
We sometimes get hit with a "stomach bug" but often it is traced back to poor food handling measures. While it's rare, we read about people who get really sick and sometimes die from things like E. coli or salmonella or even mad cow disease -- scary. We really don't want to think about how food can make us sick, we want to know how delicious it is.
But we'd rather be safe than really really sorry and knowledge is power - give these Twitterers a look.
Phyllis Entis (@foodbuglady) Entis is a food safety microbiologist (for over 35 years) who also blogs at http://efoodalert.wordpress.com/. Her blog states that she's now blogging to readers in more than 190 countries. That tells us that people are concerned and they might not be trusting the big companies and big organizations who handle most of the world's food supply.
FoodSafety.gov (@foodsafetygov)
FoodSafety.gov is "the US government's one-stop-shop for food safety information." Scrolling through the past tweets makes you feel like nothing is safe to eat anymore. Again, knowledge is power and another good reason to grow in your own backyard and really know where you food is coming from.
UMN Food Safety (@umnfoodsafety)
University of Minnesota Extension is a "research-based food safety education on food preparation, food service, preservation, and processing." We will be sure to check out the most current info on canning since we're totally going to use that case of Ball jars sitting in the garage and we don't want to make anyone sick.
