Last month, rumors were swirling as to the fate of Cork 'N Cleaver, the beloved Arcadia chophouse established in 1978 and damaged by a fire in 2010. This month, many of those rumors have been confirmed.

For starters, the ownership team of Michael Dominick's Steakhouse at the Scottsdale Quarter (Michael Mastro, Dennis Mastro, Jeffrey Mastro, and Scott Troilo) has purchased the building. And the foursome's got some big, meaty ideas for the former Phoenix landmark north of Camelback Road on 44th Street.
The team plans to turn the former Cork & Cleaver into Steak 44, an upscale American steakhouse scheduled to open this fall.
Steak 44 will feature prime steaks in small, medium, and large cuts in addition to veal, lamb, chicken, and an extensive selection of fresh seafood. The new restaurant will be headed up by Marc Lupino, executive chef of Michael Dominick's Steakhouse, who will oversee chef operations and create its menu and signature dishes (currently in progress).
The feel of the new 7,700-square foot, 210-seat restaurant is said to offer "a timeless and upscale yet approachable residential feel" that will retain the charm of Cork & Cleaver. Decor attractions include an exposed show kitchen with a chef's table, several private dining areas, a sunken bar with patio, and a 3,000-bottle wine vault in the entryway.
Live entertainment will be featured nightly.
Planned to open this fall, Steak 44 will be open seven days a week from 5 p.m. to midnight for dinner service and 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the bar.
