Our ears are still ringing from the opening of Hi-Fi Kitchen and Cocktails, Scottsdale's newest spot for drinking, dining, and general sensory overload. The concept comes from the folks behind other successful Old Town bars including The Mint, RnR, and Axis/Radius.

Hi-Fi is their new "music central" hangout with what they call a "retro" vibe. The menu features a lengthy adult milkshake section and offers bites of the "amped-up American" persuasion. Even the food at this place is loud.
From the wall of vintage stereo speakers (inset with TV screens) to the constantly-moving wall of "digital graffiti," it's fair to say owners Les and Diane Corieri pulled out all the stops on this one. Which is probably a good idea, since they'll have tough competition at the northeast corner of the Scottsdale Beach Club complex at 4420 North Saddlebag Trail. Located just steps from plenty of other popular Scottsdale nighttime hangouts like El Hefe, Majerle's, Wild Knight, and EPIQ, Hi-Fi is obviously going to fit right in with the vibrant nightlife scene.
The drink menu is dominated by the restaurant's milkshake offerings, a fun way to booze . . . without boozing too hard. We tried the Birthday, a sweet combination of cake vodka, sprinkles, and vanilla soft serve. We drank the whole thing and had to remind ourselves how many miles we'd owe at the gym to stop from ordering a second round. It was creamy and filling -- but at $10 a pop, not exactly easy on the wallet.
Other flavor options include the Grasshopper, a chocolate mint creation, and the Wake-Up Call, a mixture of Baileys, espresso, and chocolate patron.
As for the food, we'd call it modern American. They've got a decent selection of sandwiches, salads, burgers, and appetizers. We tried the pork belly open-faced sandwich and scarfed it down but on a second visit would probably opt for something else. Mostly we were just impressed with the large portion sizes. Our neighbors ordered a bowl of hummus that was big enough to swim in.
Fans of RnR's feel will appreciate the ample patio space and open/industrial vibe inside. With plenty of TVs available for viewing, we could see this being a popular place for lounging and drinking during football season (yes, we plan this far ahead).
The DJ bumped a nice cross section of popular songs from Shwayze's Corona and Lime to Taylor Swift's latest hits. And when we say "bumped," we mean it. This place isn't lacking in the slightest when it comes to audio power so if you're searching for a quiet place to chill, keep looking.
Starting tonight the bar/restaurant/nightclub will host a series of weekly dance nights and residencies. Tonight will be Throwback Thursday as DJ Aaron Taylor plays Top 40 and dance hits. Fridays will feature DJ Decipha for "High Voltage" night and "Amplified Chaos" with MCB will round out the weekend schedule on Saturday night.
