88: Hot Bollix Spicy Potato Balls from Rula Bula
These Irish eyes seem to shine just a bit brighter when we visit Rula Bula for a pint and a bite, from the savory lamb stew to the boxty. Sometimes we find that a full entrée can be a bit much on after a pint of Guinness (and maybe more than just a pint). Each of those creamy stouts starts to weigh us down, but the bar menu at Rula Bula ensures that we can still fill up with small plates like Irish corned beef sliders and our personal favorite, the Hot Bollix Spicy Potato Balls.
They may not be much to look at, but the Hot Bollix tater treats are a new school take on the old school Irish meat and potatoes. Smooth mashed potatoes, meaty Irish bacon (rashers), and pungent scallions are mixed with Irish cheddar into two-bite balls. Then those starchy bits are tempura coated and deep fried until you have an Irish-style potato cake. The result is crunchy, creamy, and oh so dreamy.
Erin go bragh, indeed.
