The fourth TEDxManhattan: Changing the Way We Eat took place in New York City on March 1, and was webcast live online. More than a dozen food experts came together to talk about changing the way we eat -- more specifically, ways we can each help fix our broken food system. Those ideas for changes included everything finding alternative sources of protein and encouraging Meatless Mondays, to antibiotic use in food animal production and restaurant worker injustice.
Phoenix-area farmer and artist Matt Moore presented at the event, giving an eight-minute talk about social change artists and the food movement. Moore is the last of four generations to farm his family's land in the Valley -- within the next five years, the land will be turned into suburban housing.

You can view Moore's whole presentation below. In it he shares some of his work video and installation artwork that's meant to bring attention to issues including the loss of small independent farms and those related to sustainability. Moore's projects include the Digital Farm Collective, which he started to help raise awareness about how food is grown through video and other digital media.
The lineup of other experts included David Binkle, director of food services for the Los Angeles Unified School District; Congresswoman Chellie Pingree; and Tom Colicchi, founder of Grammercy Tavern and judge on Top Chef.
You can view most of the Ted talks, which are no longer than 18 minutes long, online and see a complete schedule of talks on the TEDxManhattan website. TED -- which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design -- is a set of conferences that take place all over the world focusing on "ideas worth spreading" under different categories.
